Kurt Allshouse

I am an accountant turned homebuilder, turned accountant again. After building 100 custom homes, I realized that my real value to the construction industry would be to help growing builders build a “tight” set of books. My commitment to getting each phase of construction right, before proceeding on to the next one, is a personal value I carried back into the accounting world. I started with the Big-4 as an auditor, then I spent over 20 years working for homebuilders in a variety of capacities, including construction superintendent, purchasing and estimating manager, land development manager, project manager and division president. I enjoy helping real estate and construction companies solve bookkeeping, accounting and operational problems. Outside of work, I occasionally run 5Ks to maintain the discipline and focus I use to help businesses succeed…and to reflect back on my very first day on a construction site, using a porta-potty on a 9 degree day – a long way from accounting class!

I have been an accountant for almost 35 years, and for over 20 years, I have been exclusively involved with real estate (mainly with builders and multi-family investors). In over 20 years of real estate, I have done everything from assisting with deals, setting-up books, training teams, tax planning, tax preparation, Controller, CFO and investor. Also, during the past 10 years, I have had the privilege to present at various real estate events in Texas. My favorite presentation is on QuickBooks for builders. I really enjoy those “aha” moments, as the attendees realize what QBs can do … it’s not just a system to pay the trades. Although real estate is a big part of my life, I have enjoyed investigating and investing in publicly traded businesses. Always fun to see what different business produce/provide to help make the world run. Although business takes a lot of my day, I decided to include tennis as another way to exercise (a lot more fun and something I did as a kid). Should be interesting to see how I progress… may end-up switching to pickle-ball (smaller court)!
